Weaving Residency in Athens - Summer 2025
7-Week Independent Studio Residency
This 7-week weaving residency in Athens, Greece, offers one weaver or textile artist the opportunity to work independently in a fully equipped professional studio with access to a computerised 16-shaft dobby loom, sustainable materials, and tailored mentoring from award-winning textile artist Maria Stavropoulou founder of MARIA SIGMA Studio.
Designed for self-motivated practitioners, the residency supports the development of a personal project or body of work, with a balance of technical guidance, space, and time for creative exploration.
What’s Included:
– In-person induction and training on the Toika Eeva 16-shaft computerised loom and Weavepoint Software
– Ongoing 1:1 online mentoring and feedback with Maria throughout the 6 weeks
– Final in-person review and discussion at the end of the residency
– Access to a dedicated desk and laptop
– Full use of all weaving tools and studio equipment
– Access to a selection of yarns and sustainable materials from studio stock (OPTIONAL)
– Shared access to a bright, well-equipped textile studio in Athens
– Private nearby accommodation in a studio flat with Acropolis view and parking spot
Who This Is For:
This residency is ideal for experienced weavers and textile artists who:
– Are comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
– Have prior experience with multi-shaft looms or are eager to learn via focused induction
– Wish to deepen their technical skills or explore a self-led project
– Are interested in sustainable weaving, structure, and material experimentation
Residency Fee
The total cost for the 7-week residency is €2,200, which includes:
– Private accommodation (valued at €875 for 6 weeks)
– Studio access, loom and laptop use, weaving tools
– Yarn and materials (+€250 OPTIONAL)
– Initial in-person induction, remote mentoring sessions, and final in-person review
Payment Terms:
– €800 deposit to secure your place (non-refundable)
– Balance due 4 weeks before residency begins
