Hydra wall hanging takes inspiration from a misunderstood monster of Greek Mythology 'Hydra of Lerna', the serpentine water monster who was reputed to be an entrance to the underworld. Using two warps layered on top of one another, creating blocks visible at the top of the hanging, then continued to leave the rest of the warp exposed, revealing the beautiful rippled layers of undyed British wool in shades of whites, greys and Welsh black.
This unique piece is a product of a slow-making process while following a ‘zero waste’ philosophy. It took its shape using two warps layered one over the other with more than 1,600 strands in total, then hand-weaving these two cloths simultaneously, by interlacing blocks visible on the surface and invisible underneath, and exposing the different natural shades of undyed wool in a distorted graphic pattern.

In every step of the production, the ‘Zero Waste Design’ principle has been followed, aiming to decrease to the minimum yarn waste and unnecessary cuts, carbon footprints, the use of machinery, water, and electric energy. The environmental impact is being considered at all the stages of the design, the making process, and also the packaging of this item.
